Citizen Burger Bar: Your Premier Destination for Gourmet Burgers in Charlottesville

We were visiting Charlottesville as a family. We've got some people with allergies and others are just picky. We found something for every person and it was delicious. Sitting outside to enjoy the breeze was wonderful.

Nice burger place in historic downtown C'Ville. The hostess sat us immediately, whereupon I commenced to try their beer menu. Nick was a fantastic server. He was all over it. To eat I ordered their Citizen Burger and fries, both were awesome. The fries were hot and a great blend of crispy on the outside and soft and warm on the inside, with just the right amount of salt or flavor. The burger slinger cooked it just like I had asked at medium rare. The weekday dinner crowd wasn't too bad. The beer was good and Nick's selections were on point for a Texan tasting the local brews. My buddy's turkey burger was just as good. She didn't meddle much with it. Solid burgers, great beer, awesome staff.

Back on July 6th, I had THE PEOPLE'S BURGER for dinner. I have never had a hamburger that good. My wife and sister enjoyed theLITTLE BLEU and MUSHROOM & SWISS. Both loved their meal. But, I had to send a review to compliment the cook and our server, Mike for his recommendations and great conversation. He was spot on. The atmosphere was great. Not a large restaurant. But plenty of space and easy to get around. We hope to return in the fall and have recommended the spot to everyone we know.

Awesome Burger spot @ the Downtown Mall in Charlottesville VA. Inside & outdoor seating. Great sports bar feel w/ one of a kind selection of Burgers, Sandwiches, Apps & Toppings - plus a huge variety of beers/drinks w/ local options. I sat at the bar & was greet promptly by the bartender - Jules. She didn't smile much but even though I wasn't drinking, she still made sure I was well taken care of which doesn't always happen at other spots. I was eating light tonight, so I ordered the house salad. Kinda pricey at $12 but was large enough for 2 people (see pic). I also ordered the home favorite Grilled Cheese. It was packed w/ 3 different specialty cheeses & arugula on a sunflower wheat. So amazing I forgot to take a pic All in all, I will definitely swing back by the next time I'm in town & try one of those specialty Burgers

The food was better than I expected from what I heard from others and other reviews. We were here a little after the lunch rush and before dinner rush so the mood was very relaxing and not even loud. The only negative was Jules. We sat at the bar, and she was barely friendly, never checked on us, and seemed very short.

The burger was super delicious and the staff were super nice and friendly!! Sat inside and AC wasn't too cold, kinda just right! 10/10 recommend to anyone whose craving a burger and needs to get out of the sun!

We were so thankful to find this large, buzzy burger spot with plenty of TVs on the Downtown Mall to watch some March Madness! We had just eaten dinner, so we didn't order any food (though everything the people around us were eating looked delish), but they had a great list of beers on tap, and the bartender was super attentive and welcoming. Would absolutely come back to try their burgers and enjoy the atmosphere!

Overall Taste and Cost This place was a good burger spot. The price made sense for the portion sizes given. There was so much food, I wasn't able to finish everything. The onion rings were the biggest l've ever seen. I will say the onions could have been just a tidbit smaller for my liking. The fries were the best thing I ordered. The burger however was extremely dry (kinda my fault for asking for well done!). I just couldn't eat it, it was the driest well done burger I have ever tried. Location & Aesthetic This place was located in a downtown "mall" like area. There were so many other places surrounding it. There was a nice outside seating area in front of the building. There were plenty of seats also located inside. Because it's similar to an outdoor mall the parking/ trying to find a park was a little difficult. Service was okay. Overall this is a place I would recommend and try again. Recommended
